Episode 44: Jose Guerrero
My name is Jose Guerrero and I am a person in long term recovery from drugs and alcohol. I have struggled with addiction and substance abuse for more than half of my life. I am 35 years old and was born and raised in Cherokee, NC where I reside in the Yellowhill community. My grandfather, Johnathan Edward Taylor, was chief of the Eastern Band Of Cherokee Indians for more than 20 years. I am part of the Recovery on the Rez Narcotics Anonymous group as well as the RezHope Recovery and Consulting group in Cherokee. I have started an LGBTQ support group in Cherokee at the Analenisgi Behavioral Health and Recovery Center which meets every Wednesday at 5pm. I also reinstated and help lead the Narcotics Anonymous meetings for patients in Detox at the Cherokee Hospital. My main goal in life is to give back to the Cherokee community and help others who have had the same struggles that I dealt with growing up.
